Climate Change Projections for Ontario: An Updated Synthesis for Policymakers and Planners - CCRR-44

Summary

In this report, climate change projections from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Changes Fifth Assessment Report are summarized for the province of Ontario. Projected changes in climate are described under three representative concentration pathways (i.e., low, medium, and high) for the three main drainage basins in Ontario: Hudson Bay, Nelson River (northwestern Ontario), and Great Lakes Basin and the five Great Lakes subbasins (Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and the Ottawa River). In each basin, projected mean annual, summer, and winter temperatures and total annual, summer, and winter precipitation are shown for three 30-year time periods: 20112040 (the 2020s), 20412070 (the 2050s), and 20712100 (the 2080s). Results of studies in which past observed climate trends were reviewed are also included to allow comparisons between past and future trends.
